Hair Dying

Color

There is no doubt that hair colour can make the most dramatic change to your look. You can add luscious, buttery blonde highlights for a more youthful, sexy look. A rich, chocolate brown colour added to your drab hair can  give you the sensuous, glamourous look you crave. You can bring out your inner vixen with a dramatic, luminous copper gold blend. Colour can make a statement to the world.

Box colour versus salon colour. Many of you have learned the hard way what can happen if you try to do a colour yourself with a store-bought box colour. The model on the box stares at you invitingly with that beautiful, shiny mane of hair, making promises of what is to come. What she doesn’t tell you is that there is more to it than dumping the contents of the package onto your hair. Many have had the experience of the colour going too dark, too red, too dry, brighter at the roots, too light, too green, brassy, uneven….you get the picture. Some of you are nodding your heads right now with the bad memory of that experience. Some of you have gotten lucky and ended up with an ok colour. The fact is, that there is a lot more to colouring your hair than just looking at the model on that box of colour and hoping it turns out like hers. What she is promising is what you can achieve if you know what you’re doing.

If the colour doesn’t turn out, it will probably cost you so much more to get it fixed than it would have to just go to the salon in the first place. There are costs involved in color removal and toners and lighteners – and it may take several trips to fix your hair tragedy.

Your salon colour service. There is a reason that so many women, and men, come to the salon to have their colour done. Your stylist knows about hot roots and that the end colour depends on your starting colour. They know about processing times and developers. They know how to do fillers if you are going from blonde to brunette or how to get a more vibrant red or copper by balancing the existing pigments in your hair. They can do foils! They know how many to do and where to place the highlights on your head to get the best balance of light and dark and how to blend the two. All these things you might not know about and can’t do at home by yourself. This is why you come to us. Because you know the results will be more fabulous than that random box color. And you know that we are able to correct any unforeseen issues that come up.

Your stylist is there to help guide you and use their knowledge of chemistry and colour to help you achieve what you want. If you know exactly what you want and don’t want their opinion, then tell them that ahead of time. Otherwise, most stylists will have some opinions on what should happen in your colour process.

There are many factors that will affect how the hair colour turns out, and they will determine how we apply the colour, what level and tone we use, etc. What we consider:

  • the condition of your hair

  • if you already have colour in your hair

  • if you have had other chemical services done within the last 6 months or so

  • how often you will need to have it done

  • what needs to be done to achieve the colour you want

  • existing pigment in your natural hair colour
